Foreign Animal and Emerging Diseases Course
The Center for Agriculture and Food Security and Preparedness will host a week-long training course on Foreign Animal and Emerging Diseases (FAED) August 3-7, 2009. FAED trainings have been held in Knoxville both in 2005 and 2007. This event is jointly sponsored with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and includes speakers with international expertise on foreign animal and emerging diseases as well as researchers from Plum Island Animal Disease Center.

Bronson Announces Investigation into Horse Deaths
TALLAHASSEE -- Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson has launched an investigation into the deaths of 21 horses that collapsed after arriving in Wellington, Florida, for a polo match. Initially, 14 horses died by Sunday evening and an additional seven died overnight.

Residents & Travelers Alert: Possible I-10 & US 90 Closures Due to Suwannee River Flooding
TALLAHASSEE – All residents and travelers in north Florida should be on alert for rapidly changing conditions due to high water levels as a result of recent rains in the region. U.S. 90 at the Suwannee River (Madison and Suwannee County line) could be closed to all traffic as early as Thursday. If the water levels continue to rise, Interstate 10 (I-10) at the Suwannee River could also be closed as early as Friday.
